Nude Mood – All Drugstore

Nude Mood

Nude Mood

The nude trend is all the rage right now. Nude collections have been popping up everywhere from the drugstore to higher end lines. I was in Walgreens and kind of went crazy on the Maybelline Date to Go Nude Spring collection and was inspired to do an all drugstore look rocking the nude craze. Spring is in the air and all these nude and pink, girly colors compliment the season perfectly. Here’s what I came up with:
All Drugstore Nudes

All Drugstore Nudes

Nude Eyes

Nude Eyes

Eyes:
Maybelline Color Tattoo in Pure Nude
Maybelline Eye Studio Quad in Taupe Tease
CoverGirl Ink It Liner in Black Ink
Jordana Best Lash Extreme Mascara
I primed with the Color Tattoo all over the lid to help with the staying power and intensity of the shadows. Then I took the second color in the palette and put it over the creme base, just on the lid. Then I took the brown color in the Eye Studio Quad and blended it through the crease. I defined the outer corners and outer crease with the darkest shade. The Ink It liner is super smudgeable so I used it on the upper and lower lash line and smudged it with the darkest shade. The lightest, cream shade was used to highlight the brow bone and inner corner. I really love these quads. While there aren’t many mattes in them, they blend well and are usually diverse enough to create an entire look. The Best Lash Extreme on top and bottom lashes sealed the deal.

Face:
L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Makeup
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder
NYC Sunny Bronzer
Rimmel Match Perfection Brightening Concealer
Maybelline Face Studio Master Glaze Cream Blush in Barely Pink
When using this particular foundation, I like to use my concealer first so I concealed and highlighted with the Match Perfection under the eyes first. Then I evened out the skin with the Magic Nude. The Rimmel powder was used sparingly to set the T-zone and under the eyes. I warmed up the face with my fave Sunny Bronzer so I don’t look like an extra from a Twilight Movie. When doing a nude look, I like to do a little extra bronzing to make the more muted colors on the eyes come alive. Then I used my new favorite creme blush on the cheeks. These Master Glazes blend like a dream and look super natural. I’ll, naturally, have to go get more

Lips:
Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 920 Nude Lust
Maybelline Color Elixer Gloss in Polished Petal
On the lips, I started with the Nude Lust Lipstick. Maybelline makes some of the best lipsticks at the drugstore and this nude line is my favorite since their Vivids. Then I put on a more pinky gloss on top of the lipstick to add a little more color. The Color Elixers have a very thick, gel like texture which makes them last well on the lips.

So have you jumped on the Nude bandwagon? What are some of your favorite nude products from the Drugstore? Share with me!

Ipsy Glam Bag: March

Glam Bag March

Glam Bag March

I must say, Ipsy has been on a roll these past two months. I’ve been very happy with what’s coming every month. Granted, this month, I got another Be A Bombshell product and nail polish, both of which I’ve gotten a lot of lately. But you know what, I don’t mind because I’ve been impressed with the Be A Bombshell products and you know, I can always give the nail polishes to a friend. Anyway, here’s what’s up with this month’s bag.

The bag itself is interesting. Ipsy has started a collaboration with artists to design their bags. This one was designed by a San Francisco artist named Klari Reis and is supposed to mimic the city layout of San Francisco. To me, it looks like when you look through a microscope at onion peels…in technicolor. I kind of like it.

Be A Bombshell Eyeshadow Quad in Bora Bora – I’m really impressed with the quality of these shadows! They are smooth and easily blended. While you’d have to add some extra shadows to get a full look from the palette, the colors are gorgeous! I especially love the vivid blue-green color.

Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer – A primer that adds glow and hydrates? Sign me up! For me and my dry skin, this primer gives a great luminosity for under my more matte foundations. I really like it.

Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready – First off, I love anything nugget size so the cute little mini lipstick had me at first sight. I love the Marvelous Moxie glosses but had not tried the lipsticks yet. They are really a great, creamy formula. I’ll have to look into what other colors they have in the line.

Nicole by OPI Roughles Nail Polish in On What Grounds? – This color reminds me of Robin’s Eggs! Perfect for Spring. I’m not entirely sold on the ‘rough’ texture, though. I’m not sure if I love it or hate it. The jury’s still out.

So Ipsy’s been hitting some home runs lately. You know you want to get in on the action!!!!!

Bye Bye Winter!

See ya Winter!

See ya Winter!

Today is the first day of Spring which makes it the LAST day of winter. Officially. Hopefully. I know you’re thinking, “Savannah, you live in Texas, what do you know about winter?!?” I’m here to tell you, that for a Texas girl, it’s been COLD this year. I’m more than happy to move on to the warmer months! One last winter look was in order, though, before I bust out the pastels and baby pinks! Here it is:
Burgundy Eyes

Burgundy Eyes

Eyes:
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Rust
Jouer Eyeshadows in Bordeaux, Buttercream, and Chestnut
Jordana Fabuliner for Eyes
Jordana Best Lash Extreme Mascara
MAC Omega Eyeshadow in Brows
Mally Evercolor Eyeliner in Onyx

Rich, burgundy colors are going to be some of my most missed come the Spring. Hopefully, they will be back on trend for next Fall/Winter because I just love the way they look on the eyes. (And lips, for that matter!) I started out by placing the Jumbo Eye Pencil in Rust all over my lid up to the crease as a base color. Then I blended out the pencil and added definition to the crease with Chestnut from Jouer. (Side Note: The Jouer Shadows are new to me but they do NOT disappoint…I may have already ordered a couple more…) Then I packed Bordeaux over the area where I had placed the Rust pencil to give a rich, well, Bordeaux color! I then took the Buttercream shadow to highlight my browbone inner corner. I ran some black liner in the waterline and smudged the Rust pencil on the bottom lash line as well. Some winged liner on the top lash line sealed the deal.

Face:
Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation
Inglot YSM Foundation
Hourglass Dim Light Ambient Lighting Powder
MAC Select Cover Up
Maybelline Blush in Mauve

Lips:
IT Cosmetics Vitality Lip Stain in Damsel

Are you all sad to see Winter go? What trends are you sad to leave behind? Which ones are you looking forward to for Spring? Anything I need to try? Holler at me!

Ipsy Glam Bag: February

Glam Bag February

Glam Bag February

Hey there Ipsters. I’m going to cut to the chase and go ahead and say that this is my favorite Ipsy bag that I’ve received thus far. The only thing that was remotely disappointing was the bag which was just plain pink . But I don’t subscribe to Ipsy for the bag, I subscribe to try new products and these ones are really exciting.

NUME Intense Renewal Hair Mask – I have never tried anything from NUME but I’ve heard good things about their products. I’ve been making an effort to take better care of my hair so this was right up my alley. It made my hair feel like silk and I can’t be mad at that.

POP Beauty Plump Pout Mini in Peony Petal – I was a little hesitant after not loving the lip crayon from POP in a previous box. This, totally made up for it! First off, the packaging is precious…I love anything tiny. The formula is very creamy and full color but not overly sticky. The color Peony Petal is a very pretty rosy pink that would look good with a ton of different looks. I’m interested in trying out some more of these

Tini Beauty Eyetini Cream Shadow in Spiced Rum – This beautiful bronzey cream shadow was a pleasant surprise. Cream shadows can either go on patchy or crease and this one does neither. It goes on super opaque and metallic and blends out just enough so that you don’t have any harsh lines.

City Color Be Matte Blush in Fresh Melon – What a GORGEOUS color for Spring. I couldn’t get the color to show up right on camera but it’s a bright melon…as the name suggests. It doesn’t go on powdery or patchy and I’m excited to wear it come Spring. Not to mention, it’s huge so it’ll last forever.

Zoya Polish in Odette – This color is right on trend for Spring. Orchid is were it’s at! I love the formula of Zoya polish and this color is a great addition to my growing collection.

So yeah, I’m pretty much in love with all of the products this month. Way to go Ipsy!

Valentine’s Makeup

V-Day Kisses

V-Day Kisses

My husband and I don’t really make a big deal about Valentine’s day. With him working a regular 8-5 schedule and me working 3-11pm, our schedules aren’t really conducive to an extravagant celebration. We got each other gifts and we will find time to celebrate when are schedules calm down. But just because I don’t have official plans, doesn’t mean I don’t get fierce! I always like to fierce it up a bit on the actual day of Valentines day….it just makes me feel good! So here was this year’s Fierce Valentine’s Face of the Day.
Nude'Tude Eyes

Nude’Tude Eyes

Eyes:
The Balm Nude’Tude Palette
Maybelline Color Tattoo in Inked in Pink
Jordanna Best Lash Extreme Mascara
The Balm Nude'Tude Palette

The Balm Nude’Tude Palette

I decided to use The Balm Nude’Tude Palette for the eye look. The pinks and cranberry shades in the palette were just screaming for a Valentine’s Day look. I started off with the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Inked in Pink to put down a good pink base for the lid color. Then I used Stubborn, a satin pink, all over the lid up to the crease. I blended the pink out with Sultry, a matte brown in the crease. Then on the outer corners, I blended the GORGEOUS shade Sexy, a matte cranberry. Snobby was used as a brow and inner corner highlight. Then I took Cover Girl Ink It black liner and smudged it out on the upper lash line with Serious, a matte black, from the palette for a smokey liner look. Some Jordana Best Lash Extreme mascara on the top and bottom finished up the eyes.

Face:
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation
Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Corrector
Chanel Tan De Chanel Creme Bronzer
NYC Sunny Bronzer
Jordana Fabuliner for Brows in Taupe
NYX Blush in Bourgeois Pig
Hourglass Luminous Light Powder

For a luminous finish on my skin I used the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation. To make sure there were no signs of those pesky dark circles, I used the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Corrector Concentrate. (That stuff is magic! I’ll do a review/demo soon!) To warm up my skin, I used the Chanel Creme bronzer and then NYC Sunny on top for a more defined contour. Bourgeois Pig blush by NYX is a beautiful satin bright pink that adds the perfect flush to the cheeks. To finish off everything and to ensure I looked super fresh, I did a light dusting of the fab Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light all over the face.

Lips:
YSL Rouge Volupte Shine #13

A fab day deserves a fab lipstick! These YSL Lipsticks are just RICH! #13 is a pretty classic pink. Perfect for kisses on Valentine’s Day!

Whatever you did, and whoever you spent it with, I hope you all had a fab and FIERCE Valentine’s Day!

Snow Day Glam

So today, we woke up to Snow. Not nasty ice, not sleet, actual fluffy snow!!! Well bust out the cashmere and smokey eye and let’s go! I used some new items in this look that I have picked up recently and found a new love. The Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks. Why haven’t I tried these before?! I got the color Native which is a pretty pinky nude and the formula of these blew me away. They are so creamy and moisturizing. Because it was hella cold today, moisture was definitely on the menu! I need more….like now! Anyway, here is the look I created with some new Inglot shadows I got at IMATS. I LOVE Inglot shadows but it’s too much of a hassle to pry them out of the pan to get the name of them. Plus, the names are just numbers and impossible to remember. If you are really interested in a color, let me know and I’ll pry it out of the pan. Just for you!
Brr!

Brr!

Eyes:
Essence I Heart Stage Shadow Base
Covergirl Bombshell Shine Shadow in Platinum Club
Inglot Shadows
Maybelline Color Tattoo Pigment in Barely Brazen
Mally Evercolor Liner in Onyx
Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara
Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara
Smokey Eye

Smokey Eye

I primed my eyes with Essence I **Heart** Stage eyeshadow base to give an even canvas to start with. To intensify the grey in the Inglot shadow I used on the lid I put down Covergirl Bombshell Shine Shadow in Platinum Club as a base color from lash line to the crease. I used a sparkly blueish-grey all over the lid and blended it out with a satin cornflower blue. Then I used a matte midtone brown from one of their trio pans to blend out the blue. As a browbone and inner corner highlight I wanted something sparkly so I used Maybelline Color Tattoo Pigment in Barely Brazen. I smudged out the Mally Evercolor Eyeliner in Onyx with more of the blue-grey shade for a smokey effect near the lash line.

Face:
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation
Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer
Benefit Oh La Lift
ELF Mineral Concealer
The Balm Sexy Mama Translucent Powder
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
Becca Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone
Inglot Blush
NYX Push Up Bra for Eyes

For the Face, I wanted a fresh dewy look since it was SO cold and my skin has been quite dry. Not to mention my allergies and sinuses have been going nuts and the undereye circles needed some extra manpower. Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation is a FAB dewy finish foundation. Rimmel: If you’re reading this, start selling this stuff in America! It’s one of my faves. Like I mentioned, the undereye area needed some extra attention with the Wake Me Up Concealer and the pink toned Benefit Oh La Lift for some extra oomph! I set it with the ELF Mineral Concealer. Since I like the finish and color match of the Rimmel foundation, I stuck with a light dusting of the Balm Sexy Mama powder just to make sure nothing moved. The Inglot blush I used is similar to MAC’s Well Dressed but slightly less pink, if you’re familiar. It gives a great, ‘I just came out of the snow’ look even when you’ve been sitting on the couch for 3 hours watching Law & Order: SVU….not that I do that or anything….Hoola Bronzer to warm up the face and the GORGEOUS Becca Highlight completed the face. Get you one of the Becca highlighters, y’all. I promise you won’t regret it!

Lips:
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Native

So there you have it! My Snow Day Glam. I hope everyone is staying nice and warm!

Ipsy Glam Bag: January

January Glam Bag

January Glam Bag

So when I was getting this post together, I realized that I never posted about my December Glam Bag. I think with the holidays and the slew of packages that were coming to our apartment, it got lost in the mix. But I remember not being mad at it. Now let’s move along to January’s edition. The bag is cute. The blue with the cosmetic product shadows reminds me of a makeup skyline. The one thing that did strike me when I took it out of the package though, was the smell. Something with the design or manufacturing had a very heavy plasticky, pool float, smell…which is not what I want to smell in or around my makeup products. But it’s aired out fairly well, so I digress.

The Products:
Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow Creamy Eye Pencil: I don’t love nor do I hate this. It’s a pretty color and very creamy and easy to apply. I suppose you could use this as a liner (which I would think would be pretty as a little pop on the lower lash line) or as a base for a shadow. The pencil is quite thin so you would be shading for a long while to cover the entire lid. The one thing that does bother me is that in one swipe, you don’t get as opaque of a color as I would like. The product has a good amount of shimmer/glitter and it takes at least two swipes to get up to an intensity I like.

Absolute! Makeup Wipes: I’m a big fan of makeup wipes. Sometimes, you just don’t have it in you to scrub and wash and all that jazz before bed. My eyes are super sensitive and will burn easily but I had no problem with these. Loved the cucumber scent, also. Altogether, a win.

Lee Anni 3 in 1 Revolotion Face Cream: I’m a smell person. I sniff everything before I put it on my face. Let me tell you ladies, this smelled so bad, that I couldn’t bear to put it anywhere near my face. I can’t even. It will be going in the trash. Plus, the packaging reminded me of something that someone packaged in the homeroom chemistry class.

Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave in Conditioner: SCORE! I’ve been mulling over purchasing the full size of this for a while now so I’m super excited to have a little travel size to try first. I wear leave in conditioners every day and am always on the lookout for my next fave. I’ve been happy with everything that I’ve tried from the ‘Sexy Hair’ lines so far.

Mica Beauty Cosmetics Tinted Lip Balm in Fiesta: I feel like I’ve said this before with an item from an Ipsy bag but a lip balm should be moisturizing. This is more of a lip stain. That being said, though, I like it. I just think it’s not labeled correctly. The color is very pretty and if I put a stain or a gloss over it, it feels fine on the lips and lasts for a good while. I’ll get good use out of it.

So there is the Ipsy run down for January. You guys get anything good? I went to IMATS last week and picked up a bunch of fun makeup goodies while in Cali so look out for some new reviews and looks!

Savy’s Most Savvy: 2013

Best of Beauty 2013

Best of Beauty 2013

Happy New Year Everyone!!! I hope everyone had a safe and happy Holiday Season! Chris and I had a great December hanging with family and friends, cuddling with our dogs, giving and receiving presents and eating yummy food.

Now that the holiday madness is over and everything is back to normal, I thought it would be fun to do a little year-end review talking about all the fun makeup items I loved the most in the past year. So without further ado, here are Savy’s Most Savvy of 2013:

Foundation: Inglot YSM FoundationI’ve talked about this before. I pretty much love everything about this foundation. The finish is great, the lasting power amazing, it blends easily and doesn’t feel heavy. Plus, it’s super affordable. What’s not to love?

Concealer: Collection Lasting Perfection ConcealerI’m hesitant to name this as my fave because it’s only available in the UK but it has been my Holy Grail concealer since I picked it up overseas in June. This stuff is super full coverage, has a beautiful creamy texture and doesn’t crease on my undereye area. If anyone is heading to the UK any time soon, pick me up some! I’ll take shade fair or light! Thanks in advance! I’m holding on to what I have left of my tube like it’s GOLD!

Powder: Too Faced Primed and Poreless Loose PowderThis stuff will make your face feel like silk. I’m always a skeptic about products that say they are going to ‘blur’ and ‘eliminate the appearance of..’ but this one is legit. Dust this on as a setting powder over your makeup and it will make whatever foundation you are using look that much better. And since it’s translucent, it’s not going to make you look cakey or change the color of your makeup.

Blush: Illamasqua Naked Rose
Illamasqua makes a mean blush. For some reason, my biggest problem product always seems to be blush. I always seem to have problems with blending or getting an even distribution of color. Illamasqua gets it done every time and the color Naked Rose is one I think you could wear with any makeup look.

Bronzer: NYC Sunny Bronzer
The best probably $4 I spent this year. It’s pretty much the perfect bronzer. It’s matte but blends well and doesn’t have too much red in it so it doesn’t turn pale me into an Oompa Loompa!

Highlighter: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light
These Hourglass Powders are luxe. They are so finely milled and smooth that they add a little something special without being BAM! highlight. The Luminous Light shade is my favorite to add to the tops of my cheekbones for a beautiful glow.

Liner: Tarte SmolderEyes Skinny LinersThese are a gem. I’m forever on the hunt for a good liner and these get it done. They glide on like a dream and will not budge. The black Onyx shade in particular is SUPER black and longwearing. Who doesn’t need a great eyeliner?

Mascara: Tie: Cover Girl Clump Crusher & Mally Volumizing MascaraI just really don’t think that you could go wrong with either one of these. I have the Cover Girl in Brown for when I want a more ‘natural’ look but still want my lashes to have some ‘umph’ and I’m completely out of my tube of Mally so that should tell you something if it ran out before drying up!

Palette: Lorac ProI recommend this palette to anyone whenever they ask me for a recommendation on palettes. It’s really got everything. An entire row of mattes, and entire row of shimmers, all the neutrals you need, great blending colors, and a couple of subtle colors. Plus, the pigmentation and butteryness of these shadows can’t be beat. I don’t know of anyone who I have recommended this to that has been disappointed.

Lips: Anything in a jumbo lip crayon format
I just can’t get enough of lip products in a jumbo crayon form. It’s just way too easy to have a lipstick in crayon form so that you can get right to the edge of the lips without a liner. Precision is key, my friends. There are tons of brands that have a product like this but my favorites are from Tarte and Jordana.

Favorite New Brand Discovery: The BalmThe Balm is a brand that I have discovered this year and it has left me wondering where it’s been all my life. Their shadows and blushes are standouts in the line but I’ve been impressed with everything that I’ve tried so far. The brand also branches into skin and haircare and I’ve recently picked up some shampoo and conditioner that I’m eager to try. The Balm is frequently featured on Hautelook so keep an eye out for good deals. As an added bonus to their fab products, their packaging is SUPER adorable. I highly recommend checking out some things.

Beauty Resolutions for 2014:
-Establish and stick to a solid skincare regimen. I have so many skin care products and gadgets I need to use but I always tend to get lazy and use a makeup wipe and call it a night. I’m going to see to it that all of these products and devices get the love and attention they deserve in the coming year.

-Shop my stash. After IMATS next week, I’m putting myself on a serious makeup no buy. Particularly on foundations and mascaras. I need to get through what I have so I can enjoy some new goodies. It’ll be hard…but I’m going to do the best I can!

-Keep learning, building my business and blogging. I want 2014 the year where I really get serious about my makeup work. I want to get new clients, do more jobs and generally get better at what I do. I’ve been freelancing for about 7 years now for fun but I’d like to make it more of a priority and focus in the coming year. And, of course, continue to pass some of my knowledge onto you, my dear readers!!!

What are some of your favorite products of 2013? I want to know! Also, do you have any ‘Beauty Resolutions’ you are going to ‘try’ to stick to? Are you as nuts as me about makeup and have to put yourself on a product no buy?

Here’s to a BEAUTIFUL and SAVVY 2014!!!

Loving Lately: Face Sprays

Urban Decay B6 Spray

Urban Decay B6 Spray

So, it’s cold in Texas. Like, we were iced in for 3 days cold. I’m sure if you have anyone on your Facebook in the DFW area, you’ve already heard about it. Us Texans, we don’t do the cold. Or ice. Especially ice. With the cold weather comes dry skin. And if you are like me, and your skin leans toward being dry year round, this super cold weather can cause a real problem. In an effort to keep my skin looking good and moisturized during these months, I have taken to using facial sprays. I’m not talking about setting sprays, which I use everyday to set my makeup, but I’m talking about sprays that purely are for skincare or hydration. The one I’ve been using the most has been the Urban Decay B6 Prep Spray. This is a spray that I put on before even my moisturizer that Urban Decay says absorbs oil, minimizes pores, and reduces redness. You can also spritz it on during the day for a little pick me up and it won’t ruin your makeup. It absorbs quickly into the skin and I really like the way that it makes my face feel. Believe it or not, I have noticed that my pores are appearing a little bit smaller. Who knows, it might be in my head but at the very least, I haven’t had my super read, flakey winter skin yet….so something is working!

Has anyone else tried this stuff? Did you see any results? What’s your trick to combat the harshness of the cold weather months?
