I’m Back! (With a Naked 2 Fall Look)

Hello there all my Fierce Faced readers! I’ve been a little MIA lately with the holiday season starting up and travels. I apologize. But I’m back and excited to show some new looks and new favorite goodies!

Fall Naked 2

Fall Naked 2

I thought I’d come back with a look featuring one of the MOST popular palettes, like, EVER! The Naked 2. And yes ladies, I’m going to probably get the Naked 3. I’m a total sucker for a good pinky nude look and that palette can provide them in spades. Dang it Urban Decay and your knack for making amazing palettes!!! But I digress. The weather here in DFW had totally been on drugs so it’s been really hard to stay with the darker, fall looks when it’s 80 freaking degrees outside!! But I try. And here’s one that I came up with:
Fall Naked 2 Eyes

NOT Loving Lately: Benefit Stay Flawless Primer

Glue Stick Fo Yo Face!

Glue Stick Fo Yo Face!

It’s a dreary, rainy day here in the Metroplex and apparently it’s made me cranky because today I’m going to talk about something that I DON’T like: Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer. Now, let me start by saying that I gave this product a fair shot. I used it with all types of foundations, different application techniques but I can just NOT get it to work. The way Benefit says to use it is to apply it to your face from the stick and then immediately apply your foundation. The primer is supposed to kind of mix with your foundation to make is super long wearing. Really, all it does for me is make it look cakey…and it makes me sad. I really wanted to love it but when it made my Holy Grail Inglot YSM foundation look bad, I had to throw in the towel. Have you guys tried this? Did you make it work? I’m sad I paid $30 plus to look like cake face!

K.I.S.S.

Simple is Pretty

Simple is Pretty

Have you ever heard of the term K.I.S.S.? It stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid. I like to try to think of things as simple as possible. But sometimes, when I do my makeup, I’m trying to put so much stuff on my face that I forget that a simple look can look just as put together as one where you use 6 different eyeshadows on your eyes. I re-discovered this recently and have been going back to some old favorites and trying to keep it simple.
Eyes:
Benefit Creaseless Creme Eyeshadow in Birthday Suit
ELF Retractable Black Eyeliner
Maybelline Colossal Volume Express Mascara

Naked Week: Day 1

NAKED?!

NAKED?!

First off: GET YOUR MINDS OUT OF THE GUTTER!! I’m not posting nudie pictures all week.

Now that that’s out of the way, let me explain what Naked Week is. Two things I’m not really into/comfortable wearing on myself are nude and matte eyeshadows. Other people, I think can pull off the look beautifully but on me, I’m never satisfied with the result. I think it’s because I’m drawn to bright colors and shimmer finishes so I’m not used to the look of nude mattes on myself. Enter the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. I bought this a few weeks ago in an effort to try to dip my toe into the nude/matte eyeshadow world but have used it only once. Well this was just unacceptable. So Naked Week was born. I’m going to post a new look everyday this week featuring the Naked Basics Palette on my eyes. This is going to help me become more comfortable with using these shades/finishes and hopefully give you guys some ideas for looks if you have the palette also.

Naked Monday

Naked Monday

Day 1 Eye Look Breakdown:
Today’s look is what I think is a pretty natural nude look. I used my Too Faced Shadow Insurance as a base. Then divided my lid pretty much into 3rds using Foxy, Naked 2 and then Faint from inner corner to out. I used W.O.S. in the crease to blend all of the shades together and finished up the eye with a little bit of Venus in the tear duct area. I lined the lower lash line with Venus in the inner half then faint on the outer half. Then I used my Mally Evercolor Automatic Waterproof Eyeliner in Onyx to tightline the upper lash line and on the waterline. A couple coats of Maybelline The Colossal Volume Mascara on the top and Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara on the bottom pulled everything together.

Day 1

Day 1

**please excuse my unruly brows** **get thee to a threader stat!!**

What I used on the rest of my face:
Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation in Ivory
Revlon Nearly Naked Powder in Fair
Sonia Kashuk Undetectable Cream Bronzer in Warm Tan
Benefit Benetint
Benefit High Beam
Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Radiant
Benefit Instant Brow Pencil in Light
ELF Lash & Brow Clear Mascara
NYX Megashine Lip Gloss in Crystal Soda

So there’s Day 1 of Naked Week. Check back everyday thru Friday to see what I come up with from the Naked Basics Palette!

Rockstar Glam

#hardcore?

I don’t know whether it was my The Who t-shirt or just a hump-day slump but I was feeling like a glam look. I’ve decided that it’s totally ok to wear glam looks like this during the day….if you do it right.
Here are some tips to rock a fierce look during day and not look like daytime call girl!
1.) Warm up your look by blending with a warm brown color. It’s probably not something people will notice but it will help your eyes not look so harsh.

2.) Use a primer. I don’t always use a primer on my eyes but I do when I’m doing a dramatic eye like this, I always do. No one wants a runny/creasy mess! You can’t hide that business during the daytime.
3.) Make sure that you do a good bronze/highlight job. You definitely want to avoid looking like a goth…unless of course that’s the look you’re going for.
4.) Keep the lips simple. Serious eyes + serious lips x daytime = hooker. I think that’s all I need to say.

On the Coral Trend

#trendycoral

#trendycoral

So Orange is my least favorite color. And it’s all the rage right now. It just does not compliment my skin tone at ALL and always seems to remind me of cossing guards and construction workers. Not cute. But SINCE it’s all the trend… and rage…and everywhere, I’ve tried to open my mind a bit. And it seems, I like coral. There, I said it. I like coral, and it’s a shade of orange…which is odd for me to say It started when I got this cute little number from Ruche to wear on the Honeymoon.

Then I found my old Coralista box blush by Benefit. THEN I remembered this coral-y lipstick that my Mother had given me because it was too ‘pink’ for her. (My Mom looks GREAT in orange, on the other hand) Thus, a makeup look was born…and trendy at that. For this look I wanted the focus to be on my cheeks and lips so I made my skin flawless with my most full coverage foundation (Wet n’ Wild Cover-All) and kept my eyes neutral and matte with my new Flower Beauty eyeshadow quad in Smoke and Mirrors.

Winter…in the middle of Spring

Hey Peeps! So the weather in Texas has been completely bananas lately. One day, it’s beautiful and sunny, the next cold and rainy. Pretty typical for Texas actually, but I’m really ready for some consistant SPRING weather. This was a particularly cold day (like, highs in the 40’s!) for APRIL and it jerked me out of my bright spring tones and back into the rich, warm tones that remind me of the colder months. Here’s the Look:

Recovering Makeup Snob

I have a confession to make.  I am a recovering makeup snob.  I used to think that the only place to get good quality makeup was at a department store…and pay an arm and a leg for it.  My Mom always used high end cosmetics so I just accepted that as the norm. The first makeup I remember was Color Me Beautiful. Remember that? I think I’m a Summer.  My stepdad used to give my sister and I $500 gift cards to Macy’s for Christmas when we were younger. It was always an epic shop-a-thon. I used mine my Sophomore year in High School to start my makeup collection at the Clinique counter like my Mom suggested. I used Clinique throughout High School and into College. Once I got to College, I would occassionaly pick up something from the drugstore (hello! College. Broke!) but it never seemed to work out right. I’d just scrape together the money to get more Clinique.  I guess I wasn’t trying the right things.  Then my sister introduced me to MAC and I overhauled everything in my collection to MAC products.  After a few years, I discovered Benefit and wore nothing but that for a while.  However, since getting into the makeup blogging world, it has opened my eyes to some great products at the drug store.  Now, I have no loyalty.  My go to products now consist of some of my old, high end favorites and new drugstore discoveries.  Moral of the story:  go try out some products at the drugstore.  No shame in that game! You never know what you might find and there are some really great things out there. Trust!

Things from the Drugstore that I’m loving right now:
Wet n’ Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Pallets
Revlon Smokey Shadow Sticks
Rimmel ScandalEyes Eye Pencils
Loreal Carbon Black Liner Intense Felt Tip Pen
Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circles

Go Rangers!

So yesterday was the home season opener for the Texas Rangers. I think that nothing says Spring like a day at the Ballpark! Even though I wasn’t able to attend the game, I was for sure celebrating the start of the season with my Rangers jersey and makeup look. Bonus: WE WON! Take that Josh Hamilton!!
