Purple Passion

A Passion for Purple

A Passion for Purple

In honor of my dearest TCU Horned Frogs playing in the College World Series, I thought a good ‘ole monochromatic Purple look was in order. Purple is one of my favorite colors and one of the few that lend itself to a full face monochrome look. I mean, my actual favorite color is green but I don’t see the green blush trend catching on anytime soon! This look was also very easy to achieve using the L’Oreal Infallible Shadow in Burst into Bloom for a one color look. The Infallible shadows have so much dimension and sparkle that a lot of the time, all you need is one shade. Here is the finished look and the products used to achieve it…and GO FROGS!

Shades of Grey

Grey n' Pink

Grey n’ Pink

It’s technically Fall but is still sitting around 90 degrees here in the Metroplex. It makes it very hard to get into the Fall colors with that kind of weather going on. Grey is a big color for eyes this season, so I found a way to incorporate a Fall trend that didn’t seem SO Fall in the 90 degree heat. I used 3 Inglot Shadows to get this look and I wish I could tell you their numbers but I can’t get those suckers out of the palette! *Inglot shadows are AWESOME, BTW! Same or better quality than MAC, same awesome color selection and only $6 a piece.*

Kitten Face

The Government is shut down….let’s talk about makeup. With the dark mood going on across the country, I’d thought I’d share a bright, clean look featuring Stila’s famous eyeshadow in Kitten. It really doesn’t get any better for a shimmery shade than Kitten. I highly suggest you try it out if you haven’t before. Here’s a happy look to brighten up your dark day! Meow!

K.I.S.S.

Simple is Pretty

Simple is Pretty

Have you ever heard of the term K.I.S.S.? It stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid. I like to try to think of things as simple as possible. But sometimes, when I do my makeup, I’m trying to put so much stuff on my face that I forget that a simple look can look just as put together as one where you use 6 different eyeshadows on your eyes. I re-discovered this recently and have been going back to some old favorites and trying to keep it simple.

Blue Eyes

Blue Eyes

Am I the only one who actually loves wearing blue eyeshadow? A lot of people say it’s dated and 80’s but when done right, I think it can be lovely. I’ve used the On Cloud 9 Wet n’ Wild trio in pieces but never done a look using all three colors together. Here’s the look:

Bronze Overload

This is me trying to 'smize' a la Tyra

This is me trying to ‘smize’ a la Tyra

Something happens when I put bronze on my eyes. I always feel the need to incorporate bronze into everything else that goes on my face resulting in a kind of monochrome looks. I suppose there are worse things. I mean, you can’t really do a monochrome look with green….unless, I guess, you’re Kermit. But seriously, with my (most of the time) green eyes, I think that bronze really makes them pop. Here’s the look:

Since we are halfway(!) through the year, I thought now would be a good time to reflect on some of the makeup products and tools that I have been getting some good, hard use out of in the past month. I think it’s only proper to give a shout out to the things that have been helping me be the most fierce lately.

Inglot YSM Foundation: I know I just picked this up on my recent trip to Ireland but I can already tell you it’s going to be my favorite foundation. I can’t lie, I don’t think I had a favorite foundation before this…but I do now and I see myself repurchasing it for quite some time. Love the finish, love the lasting power, love the coverage. Love it!

NYX Push-Up Bra for Eyebrows: Silly Name. Awesome Product. I find most brow pencils to be either too hard or too soft. But I’m telling you Goldilocks would use this pencil because it’s Just Right. It also doesn’t have too much red in it, which is another problem with brown brow pencils. The highlighter end, like I said before, is a dupe for Benefit High Beam which is a product I’ve used and loved for a long time.

Cream Products for Face: There are so many cream products that I’ve been using for my face that it was hard for me to pick a specific one. I love using cream blushes/bronzers/highlighters during the Summer for that fresh Summer Glow! They are especially awesome when you have a bit of a tan. Some specific ones to mention are Sonia Kashuk Undetectable Creme Bronzer in Warm Tan and the ELF All Over Color Sticks.

Makeup Setting Sprays: I live in Texas. It’s hot. I sweat. A lot. Not a good combination of factors for lasting makeup. Setting Sprays to the rescue. A mist from one of these bad boys give my makeup at least a fighting chance in the Texas Heat. I’ve been using ELF Makeup Mist & Set, Urban Decay All-Nighter, and NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray

Dishonorable Mention: ELF Triple Tip Waterproof Eyeliner Pen. I Love ELF. 9 times out of 10 their products are ah-mazing and perform as good if not better than their high end counter-part. And for a mere fraction of the price. This let me down. It looked like a dupe for the Too Faced 3 Way Eyeliner Pen, which I have and love. The Too Faced is $22 while the ELF Pen is $2. I’m sold! I should have known we were in trouble when the tip of the pen was hard….like scratch my eye hard. How can a felt tip pen be so hard?, I asked. But for only $2, I perservered. It applied ok, other than the hardness, but after I finished my whole face, I noticed that the inner corner of my upper lash line was creeping. Creeping up. Creeping to where eyeliner need not be. My eyes were not watery either. So I did an experiement where I put a swatch on my hand and let it sit. Then I wet my finger and rubbed across it. NOT. WATERPROOF. Sadly, that was the end for ELF’s poor little Waterproof Eyeliner Pen and he will now live out his days in the trash bin.

So Nice I Wore It Twice

I had quite a fun and adventurous weekend that included movies, wax museums, wine, beer, fried pickles and a Savy Seminar! Naturally, I didn’t want to waste good fun-having time on an elaborate makeup look. It’s getting hot already in Texas and I was going to be all over the place so I kept it simple yet still fab. (Duh!) I liked what I came up with on Saturday so much that I wore the same look again on Sunday…and maybe Monday…It’s so rare that I wear the same products consecutive days, let alone the same look so, of course, I had to share. Super quick, a little icy, a little glowy, but effortlessly fab!
