Back to MAC

Once upon a time, I was a MAC snob. It was all I used, or wanted to use. Once I started branching out, I discovered there is more to makeup than MAC Cosmetics but that’s not to say they don’t make some great stuff! I recently found myself with a embarrassingly huge bag of empties to Back to MAC and wandered over to the counter. It made me miss all of my old MAC shadows that have been neglected since losing my mind and attempting to purchase every palette that comes out. (Or so it seems!) I dug through my stash and pulled out some old favorites and created a classic MAC look.
Classic Eyes

Classic Eyes

Eyes:
MAC Grain, Soft Brown, Nylon, Black Tied
Mally Evercolor Liner in Onyx
Bare Minerals Lash Domination Mascara

Face:
MUFE Face & Body Foundation
MAC Select Cover Up Concealer
Maybelline Dream Lumi
MAC Blush in Sincere
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders in Dim and Diffused Light
Tarte Park Avenue Princess Bronzer
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone

Lips:
MAC Ruby Woo

There really is nothing like a classic, simple eye look with a matte red lip. I felt like using some of MAC’s classically famous shades to create something that is easy, yet looks super chic and put together. The Hourglass powders are key to giving your skin the extra fresh and glowing appearance that compliments a classic eye and lip beautifully. And if you were wondering how many lipsticks I was able to get with my Back to MAC goodies…I got 6…and have enough empties left over to get that many more. Yes…I realize I have a problem…

Sometimes, you just need to do something a little bit different. This look was inspired by a tutorial by ShaaanXO on YouTube. She did an almost Fairy-like look with white eyeliner and I thought: Humm…that looks fun! So here is my take!

Bronze Overload

This is me trying to 'smize' a la Tyra

This is me trying to ‘smize’ a la Tyra

Something happens when I put bronze on my eyes. I always feel the need to incorporate bronze into everything else that goes on my face resulting in a kind of monochrome looks. I suppose there are worse things. I mean, you can’t really do a monochrome look with green….unless, I guess, you’re Kermit. But seriously, with my (most of the time) green eyes, I think that bronze really makes them pop. Here’s the look:

I’ve been feeling my TCU Pride lately. If you didn’t know I am an alum of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and (without getting too political) I’ve been very proud of the things my fellow TCU Alum has been doing in the Texas State Senate. To celebrate I threw on an old Horned Frog shirt and slapped some purple on my eyes!

Naked Week: Day 3

Day 3

Day 3

Happy Humpday Everyone! This marks the halfway point of my journey into mattes and nudes using the UD Naked Basics Palette. I hope you’ve enjoyed it thus far and have maybe even picked up some ideas on how to use this palette (or similar shades) for yourself! After going soft and easy with my makeup yesterday, I decided to pump up the volume today for a super glam look.
Naked Wednesday

Naked Wednesday

Here’s the breakdown:
I prepped my eyes using a mix of Too Faced Shadow Insurance and MAC Select Cover-Up to make the shades stay put. I used Naked 2 all over the lid up to the crease. Then I blended Faint into the crease and used Crave on the outer corner. Then I used W.O.S. to blend above the crease and up to the browbone. To lighten the inner corner around the tear duct I used Venus and then brought it along the inner half of the lower lash line. I lined the outer half of the lower lash line with Crave also. My L’Oreal Carbon Black Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Liner was the perfect fit for that glam winged look. On my top and bottom inner rims I used the Tarte skinny smolderEyes in Onyx. The look was completed with Revlon Lash Potion Mascara in Blackest Black. (That stuff is seriously amazing, I highly recommend trying it. One of the best Mascaras I’ve ever used)

An Easy Classic

#oldhollywood

#oldhollywood

I love the look of old Hollywood glam. I mean, who doesn’t! The porcelain skin, the red lips; I love it all! I love it even more that it’s surprisingly easy to achieve! Here are Savy’s top 3 tips on how to get a super easy throwback look:
1.) It’s all about even, matte skin. When I’m going for a vintage Hollywood look, I like to take it easy on all the contouring and highlighting that I usually do. I also use a matte face powder to set my foundation with. Rimmel Stay Matte is a great one from the drugstore. It’s actually pretty hard to find a good matte powder from anywhere, let alone the drugstore and this one is pretty darn good. And I don’t like matte powders.
2.) Keep the eyes simple. Go for classic colors. On this particular day I used my Revlon Smokey Shadow Stick in Atomic. One side is golden and the other a dark, gunmetal with what looks to be a hint of forest green. That’s all I used. Wham, bam, thank you Gorgeous! For an even more toned down look, use a neutral matte color over the lid and then define the crease with a taupe. Insta classic.
3.) R.E.D. Lips! I think that MAC Red (that’s really the name) is the perfect old Hollywood red. It’s got a nice satin finish and wears like a gem.

**Usually I’d rock a winged liquid liner with this look but I was feeling lazy so I just tightlined my eyes with a black pencil. I like the way it turned out all the same…and I especially liked not having to fuss over getting the perfect wing!**

Hope these tips help you to achieve that perfect throwback glam look! Now go be fierce!

A “Wicked” Good Time!

Two of my bestie girlfriends and I headed to Dallas to catch a performance of Wicked. I loves me a good theatre performance. Not only because I’m a total nerd, but I love a good excuse to get dressed up and drink wine with my ladies. As I mentioned before in my post about the Ginda Palette by Urban Decay, I’m a total Wizard of Oz nerd. What better way of celebrating a Wizard of Oz type of night than with a look using this palette! We had such a blast and the show was ah-mazing!

Savy’s Bonus Makeup Question inspired by the performance: What on earth kind of makeup did they use to make Elphaba green?! I need that formula in a foundation, STAT!
Bonus, BONUS Question: How to I get to do theatre makeup? What a fun job that must be!

Bronzed and Ready for SPRING!

#needwarmerweather

#needwarmerweather

It’s been unseasonably cold here in Texas. Like, I’ve had to re-bust out my sweaters, cold. And frankly, it’s getting ridiculious. I mean, I’m not excited about the 100+ temps of summer, but some fresh, hammock weather would be nice. Today I was going to wear a bronze-springy look if it killed me!! A fun way I like to add a pop of color to a monochrome look is with a colored liner on the bottom lash line. I especially like a good teal/bronze combo, which is what I opted for in this look.
