Sensible Glitter Liner

A pop of fun color liner is all the rage right now. I say, why not take it to the next level with a GLITTER liner. I say every day is a good day to wear glitter and if you tone down the rest of your makeup, I definitely think you can make it work during the day. Keep the focus on your liner with neutral eye makeup and lips and it’s totally doable. This was also the first time using a couple of the new Bella eyeshadow singles from Milani and I’m here to tell you that they are on point! EXCELLENT singles from the drugstore so if you’re in the market, go check them out.

Don’t be scared of a bold liner! It’s a great way to experiment with colors if they are not something that you are not usually comfortable with. You don’t have to be as hardcore as I am and skip the glitter! I can’t help it. Glitter is my favorite color!

The Heat of Summer

'Maybe if I close my eyes I can cool down'

‘Maybe if I close my eyes I can cool down’

Well. It finally happened. It got HOT in Texas. Like the 100 degree hot. And the last thing that I want to do is put on a lot of makeup so I’ve been rocking a lighter (for me!) look. This is one I’m particularly fond of. The Rimmel ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Paint in Chestnut Taupe is a fantastic one color look. As a bonus, these paints will last all day long even in the sweltering heat. I’ve also gone back to my L’Oreal Magic Nude foundation since it literally feels like nothing on the face and has a nice matte finish to help hide the excessive sweat! Another way of deterring people from your sweatiness is a bright lip. I rediscovered my Maybelline Vivids and can’t stop! What are your fave hot weather favorites? I’m always up for new recommendations.

Purple Passion

A Passion for Purple

A Passion for Purple

In honor of my dearest TCU Horned Frogs playing in the College World Series, I thought a good ‘ole monochromatic Purple look was in order. Purple is one of my favorite colors and one of the few that lend itself to a full face monochrome look. I mean, my actual favorite color is green but I don’t see the green blush trend catching on anytime soon! This look was also very easy to achieve using the L’Oreal Infallible Shadow in Burst into Bloom for a one color look. The Infallible shadows have so much dimension and sparkle that a lot of the time, all you need is one shade. Here is the finished look and the products used to achieve it…and GO FROGS!

Happy Maleficent Day!

Maleficent

Maleficent

I admit it. I have a Maleficent problem. After Ursula, she’s my favorite Disney character. She has the best makeup and can turn into a freaking dragon! What’s not to love!?! Today, the much anticipated (by me) live action Maleficent movie comes out today and I felt obligated to do a Maleficent inspired look. I used my ELF Maleficent collection that was available around Halloween and popped on my horns from my costume this last Halloween. Basically, the gist of this post is that I’m a dork and felt the need to celebrate the bad-assness that is Maleficent. Thank you for humoring me, FOOLS!!!!!

And because I love the Grumpy Cat:

Orange Appeal

Orange Appeal

Orange Appeal

I have no qualms about saying that orange is my least favorite color to wear. I looks dreadful on me. But if you flip through the latest fashion and beauty magazines, you will see that orange on the eyes or lips is the latest crazy. So naturally, I had to try it out despite my hesitation. And you know what? I’m not completely mad at it! Because of my complexion, I’ll never be able to pull off true orange, but creamy oranges and peaches are not totally bad. Here’s me *trying* to rock the Orange trend on my fierce face!

10 Under 10

10 under 10
I loves me some good High End makeup! But at the same time, I also love me a good bargain. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than finding something fab for less. I thought I would give you all a run down of my favorite products that will not break the bank! Everything on the list is under $10!

1. Rimmel BB Cream $6.99 – This is marketed as a 9 in 1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup. While I don’t know if I believe all that, it is the best drugstore BB Cream I’ve tried. It gives pretty good coverage for a BB cream and has a really rich, creamy texture but doesn’t feel heavy when you put it on the face.

2. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer $6.99 – This is one of my favorite concealers, high end or otherwise. While it does not have super high coverage, it can blend like a dream. Perfect for highlighting the under eye area. I have all the shades in my makeup kit to use on client.

3. Maybelline Color Tattoos $6.99 – These cream shadows are truly a gem of the drugstore. I used to be addicted to the Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows but after discovering the Color Tattoos, I’ll never go back to buying high end cream shadows. They advertise a 24 hour wear and seriously, I think that if you didn’t wash your face, they would really last 24 hours. Without Creasing! They have a great color range in the permanent line and are constantly coming out with limited edition collections so there is something everyone will love.

4. NYX Powder Blush $5.99 – NYX makes some amazing affordable products but their blushes are my favorite. They have a wide color range in a variety of finishes to accommodate all different skin tones. They are never powdery and blend on the cheeks beautifully. As a bonus, I’ve seen NYX products popping up at CVS Stores so they will soon be more widely available.

5. Rimmel Show Off Lip Laquer $5.99 – I discovered these when I went to the UK a couple years ago. Over there, they are called “Apocalips” which I, personally, think is much more awesome name…but I digress. Not long after I came back, they were in Walgreens and now they are part of the permanent Rimmel display with a wider color range. These suckers are awesome. They are like a liquid lipstick but with a high shine and super long wear. These are not for the color faint of heart! One swipe and you are full on covered.

6. Real Techniques Brushes $5.99-$9.99 – Now I know the brush sets will run you between $15 and $20 but the individual brushes are between 6-10. I really don’t think there is a better range of brushes at the drugstore…and they beat out some ‘High End’ brushes as well. The Expert Face Brush will change the way you apply your foundation and the Miracle Complexion Sponge is a pretty solid dupe for the Beauty Blender…and only 6 bucks!

7. Wet n’ Wild Color Icon Trios $2.99 – I know I’ve raved about these in the past but Y’all, they can’t be beat! I know Wet n’ Wild has come out with some 5 pan palettes and whatnot but stick to the Trios. Seriously the best powder shadows in the drugstore. Serious pigmentation and blend-ability. I think that everyone needs the neutral trio in Walking on Eggshells. This is my go to trio for when I don’t know what to wear.

8. Revlon Lip Butters $8.29 – Revlon’s Lip Butters are some of my Summer makeup staples. These have the most delicious feeling on the lips. Some would even say ‘buttery’. 😉 Unlike the Show Offs, these are more sheer on the lips so they are great for someone who is not used to wearing color on the lips and wants to try something new. There is a great color selection. Plus, I think the quilted looking packaging is adorable.

9. Jordana FabuBrow $1.99 – Easily the biggest bargain on the list. Jordana is a brand that I find at Walgreens and has excellent products for even more excellent prices. I am admittedly not a brow person. I don’t have them, I’m not good at filling them in, and they are often neglected. I know. It’s bad. But this brow product makes my brows a little bit more happy. The Taupe shade is perfect for people with my coloring because it does not have too much warmth, which is the problem that I have with brow products. It also has a little brush on the cap to help tame your unruly brows.

10. Maybelline Master Drama Pencil Liners $7.99 – These are my favorite pencil liners at the drugstore. I had notoriously stayed away from Drugstore liners because of past bad experiences with rock hard pencils. But after hearing good reviews on the Master Drama Liners, I checked them out for myself and was hooked. They are super creamy and easy to smudge out and have really good staying power. Pretty much everything you want from a liner. And again, Maybelline always has new collections and colors coming out.

So there you have it. A run-down of my top 10 products under $10. As with all Drugstore makeup, shop those sales and BOGO offers to get these lovelies for an even better deal. Don’t be afraid of the makeup at the Drugstore. There are really great gems to be found! What are your cheap-o faves?

Back to MAC

Once upon a time, I was a MAC snob. It was all I used, or wanted to use. Once I started branching out, I discovered there is more to makeup than MAC Cosmetics but that’s not to say they don’t make some great stuff! I recently found myself with a embarrassingly huge bag of empties to Back to MAC and wandered over to the counter. It made me miss all of my old MAC shadows that have been neglected since losing my mind and attempting to purchase every palette that comes out. (Or so it seems!) I dug through my stash and pulled out some old favorites and created a classic MAC look.

There really is nothing like a classic, simple eye look with a matte red lip. I felt like using some of MAC’s classically famous shades to create something that is easy, yet looks super chic and put together. The Hourglass powders are key to giving your skin the extra fresh and glowing appearance that compliments a classic eye and lip beautifully. And if you were wondering how many lipsticks I was able to get with my Back to MAC goodies…I got 6…and have enough empties left over to get that many more. Yes…I realize I have a problem…

Renaissance Faire Fun

Ren Faire Flair

Ren Faire Flair

This past weekend, my Husband and I took our annual pilgrimage to the Scarborough Renaissance Festival. The food is good, the shows are funny, and the people watching is like nowhere else! My thought is, if you can’t wear crazy makeup and eyelashes to a Ren Faire, where can you!? I decided to go for a pixie-esque look with pastels from the Limited Edition Sigma Creme de Couture Palette. I really loved how it turned out…until the wind and dirt and humidity at the Faire had me looking like a hot mess! Oh well!

Loving Lately: Maybelline Master Hi-Light Blushes

Maybelline Master Hi-Light Blushes

Maybelline Master Hi-Light Blushes

I wanted to talk to Ya’ll today about a product from the drugstore that I think is seriously great. In January-ish Maybelline came out with a product called the Master Hi-Light Blushes. These are marketed as Hi-Lighting Blushes. As a girl who A) Loves a good glow and B) Has dry skin, I was interested. Plus, the mosaic pattern of the blushes is pretty…and I’m a sucker for anything pretty. If you look closely, there is no actual glitter in the blush so it’s not going to make you ‘sparkle’ but instead, gives you a very pretty ‘glow’. Obviously, not every one is a fan of the more shimmery blushes. If you have more problematic skin, mature skin or oily skin, these blushes won’t flatter you. Normal and especially dry skinned gals, you need to try you some! I think these will be great when the weather in Texas gets hot and I don’t feel like putting on a whole lot of products. If I’m wearing one of these, I skip the highlighter and bronzer and just stick to the beautiful glow that these provide.

In the line there are 4 ‘blush’ colors and two ‘bronze’ colors. They also came out with a limited edition Natural shade for their Spring Nude collection. The blushes come with a mirror and small brush hidden in a compartment under the product. At about $9.99 a piece, shop for deals at the drugstore and try you one for cheap!

Here are the colors I have:

Clockwise from Top Left: Pink Rose, Natural (LE), Nude, Mauve
