Loving Lately: Maybelline Master Hi-Light Blushes

Maybelline Master Hi-Light Blushes

Maybelline Master Hi-Light Blushes

I wanted to talk to Ya’ll today about a product from the drugstore that I think is seriously great. In January-ish Maybelline came out with a product called the Master Hi-Light Blushes. These are marketed as Hi-Lighting Blushes. As a girl who A) Loves a good glow and B) Has dry skin, I was interested. Plus, the mosaic pattern of the blushes is pretty…and I’m a sucker for anything pretty. If you look closely, there is no actual glitter in the blush so it’s not going to make you ‘sparkle’ but instead, gives you a very pretty ‘glow’. Obviously, not every one is a fan of the more shimmery blushes. If you have more problematic skin, mature skin or oily skin, these blushes won’t flatter you. Normal and especially dry skinned gals, you need to try you some! I think these will be great when the weather in Texas gets hot and I don’t feel like putting on a whole lot of products. If I’m wearing one of these, I skip the highlighter and bronzer and just stick to the beautiful glow that these provide.

In the line there are 4 ‘blush’ colors and two ‘bronze’ colors. They also came out with a limited edition Natural shade for their Spring Nude collection. The blushes come with a mirror and small brush hidden in a compartment under the product. At about $9.99 a piece, shop for deals at the drugstore and try you one for cheap!

Here are the colors I have:

Clockwise from Top Left: Pink Rose, Natural (LE), Nude, Mauve

Clockwise from Top Left: Pink Rose, Natural (LE), Nude, Mauve

I tried REAL hard to get a good swatch photo but this is the best that I could do….

Natural, Mauve, Nude, Pink Rose

These blushes get the Savy Seal of Approval! Try you some, Girl!!

Savy’s Most Savvy: 2013

Best of Beauty 2013

Best of Beauty 2013

Happy New Year Everyone!!! I hope everyone had a safe and happy Holiday Season! Chris and I had a great December hanging with family and friends, cuddling with our dogs, giving and receiving presents and eating yummy food.

Now that the holiday madness is over and everything is back to normal, I thought it would be fun to do a little year-end review talking about all the fun makeup items I loved the most in the past year. So without further ado, here are Savy’s Most Savvy of 2013:

Foundation: Inglot YSM FoundationI’ve talked about this before. I pretty much love everything about this foundation. The finish is great, the lasting power amazing, it blends easily and doesn’t feel heavy. Plus, it’s super affordable. What’s not to love?

Concealer: Collection Lasting Perfection ConcealerI’m hesitant to name this as my fave because it’s only available in the UK but it has been my Holy Grail concealer since I picked it up overseas in June. This stuff is super full coverage, has a beautiful creamy texture and doesn’t crease on my undereye area. If anyone is heading to the UK any time soon, pick me up some! I’ll take shade fair or light! Thanks in advance! I’m holding on to what I have left of my tube like it’s GOLD!

Powder: Too Faced Primed and Poreless Loose PowderThis stuff will make your face feel like silk. I’m always a skeptic about products that say they are going to ‘blur’ and ‘eliminate the appearance of..’ but this one is legit. Dust this on as a setting powder over your makeup and it will make whatever foundation you are using look that much better. And since it’s translucent, it’s not going to make you look cakey or change the color of your makeup.

Blush: Illamasqua Naked Rose
Illamasqua makes a mean blush. For some reason, my biggest problem product always seems to be blush. I always seem to have problems with blending or getting an even distribution of color. Illamasqua gets it done every time and the color Naked Rose is one I think you could wear with any makeup look.

Bronzer: NYC Sunny Bronzer
The best probably $4 I spent this year. It’s pretty much the perfect bronzer. It’s matte but blends well and doesn’t have too much red in it so it doesn’t turn pale me into an Oompa Loompa!

Highlighter: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light
These Hourglass Powders are luxe. They are so finely milled and smooth that they add a little something special without being BAM! highlight. The Luminous Light shade is my favorite to add to the tops of my cheekbones for a beautiful glow.

Liner: Tarte SmolderEyes Skinny LinersThese are a gem. I’m forever on the hunt for a good liner and these get it done. They glide on like a dream and will not budge. The black Onyx shade in particular is SUPER black and longwearing. Who doesn’t need a great eyeliner?

Mascara: Tie: Cover Girl Clump Crusher & Mally Volumizing MascaraI just really don’t think that you could go wrong with either one of these. I have the Cover Girl in Brown for when I want a more ‘natural’ look but still want my lashes to have some ‘umph’ and I’m completely out of my tube of Mally so that should tell you something if it ran out before drying up!

Palette: Lorac ProI recommend this palette to anyone whenever they ask me for a recommendation on palettes. It’s really got everything. An entire row of mattes, and entire row of shimmers, all the neutrals you need, great blending colors, and a couple of subtle colors. Plus, the pigmentation and butteryness of these shadows can’t be beat. I don’t know of anyone who I have recommended this to that has been disappointed.

Lips: Anything in a jumbo lip crayon format
I just can’t get enough of lip products in a jumbo crayon form. It’s just way too easy to have a lipstick in crayon form so that you can get right to the edge of the lips without a liner. Precision is key, my friends. There are tons of brands that have a product like this but my favorites are from Tarte and Jordana.

Favorite New Brand Discovery: The BalmThe Balm is a brand that I have discovered this year and it has left me wondering where it’s been all my life. Their shadows and blushes are standouts in the line but I’ve been impressed with everything that I’ve tried so far. The brand also branches into skin and haircare and I’ve recently picked up some shampoo and conditioner that I’m eager to try. The Balm is frequently featured on Hautelook so keep an eye out for good deals. As an added bonus to their fab products, their packaging is SUPER adorable. I highly recommend checking out some things.

Beauty Resolutions for 2014:
-Establish and stick to a solid skincare regimen. I have so many skin care products and gadgets I need to use but I always tend to get lazy and use a makeup wipe and call it a night. I’m going to see to it that all of these products and devices get the love and attention they deserve in the coming year.

-Shop my stash. After IMATS next week, I’m putting myself on a serious makeup no buy. Particularly on foundations and mascaras. I need to get through what I have so I can enjoy some new goodies. It’ll be hard…but I’m going to do the best I can!

-Keep learning, building my business and blogging. I want 2014 the year where I really get serious about my makeup work. I want to get new clients, do more jobs and generally get better at what I do. I’ve been freelancing for about 7 years now for fun but I’d like to make it more of a priority and focus in the coming year. And, of course, continue to pass some of my knowledge onto you, my dear readers!!!

What are some of your favorite products of 2013? I want to know! Also, do you have any ‘Beauty Resolutions’ you are going to ‘try’ to stick to? Are you as nuts as me about makeup and have to put yourself on a product no buy?

Here’s to a BEAUTIFUL and SAVVY 2014!!!

Loving Lately: Face Sprays

Urban Decay B6 Spray

Urban Decay B6 Spray

So, it’s cold in Texas. Like, we were iced in for 3 days cold. I’m sure if you have anyone on your Facebook in the DFW area, you’ve already heard about it. Us Texans, we don’t do the cold. Or ice. Especially ice. With the cold weather comes dry skin. And if you are like me, and your skin leans toward being dry year round, this super cold weather can cause a real problem. In an effort to keep my skin looking good and moisturized during these months, I have taken to using facial sprays. I’m not talking about setting sprays, which I use everyday to set my makeup, but I’m talking about sprays that purely are for skincare or hydration. The one I’ve been using the most has been the Urban Decay B6 Prep Spray. This is a spray that I put on before even my moisturizer that Urban Decay says absorbs oil, minimizes pores, and reduces redness. You can also spritz it on during the day for a little pick me up and it won’t ruin your makeup. It absorbs quickly into the skin and I really like the way that it makes my face feel. Believe it or not, I have noticed that my pores are appearing a little bit smaller. Who knows, it might be in my head but at the very least, I haven’t had my super read, flakey winter skin yet….so something is working!

Has anyone else tried this stuff? Did you see any results? What’s your trick to combat the harshness of the cold weather months?

Ipsy Glam Bag: November

November Glam Bag

November Glam Bag

It’s that Ipsy time of the month again. I’m on the fence on whether or not I’m happy with this month’s bag. On one hand, the bag itself is great and I’m not mad at any of the products but it seems like I’ve gotten a few of these things before. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Starlooks Gem Pencil in Topaz – In my 7 months with Ipsy, this has been my 3rd Starlooks Pencil. I mean, there are worse pencils, but there are certainly better. This one in Topaz is a SUPER glittery silver. In a lot of glitter eye pencils, the glitter gets clumpy and the pencil is hard to apply but this one applys pretty smooth. So that’s good, but I’m just not sure how often I’ll wear a super glittery pencil like this. It could be a fun accent on the bottom lash line or good as a super sparkly base for a Holiday look.

BH Cosmetics Baked Galaxy Chic Eyeshadow in Aphrodite – Again, this is the 2nd time I’ve gotten a BH shadow sample in my bag…but this one, I’m not complaining about. I’m a big fan of BH Cosmetics and had been eyeballing the Galaxy Chic Baked Shadow Palette for a while but I’m just not generally a fan of baked shadows. This one, is gorgeous. It’s a beautiful shimmery rusty color that is perfect for the season and the color payoff is fab. Ok BH, I’ll buy your palette!

Nailtini Nail Polish in Champagne – My second Nailtini polish in 7 months. (Are we seeing a pattern here?) The color is a beautiful rose gold. I’ll wear it and if the formula is like the last Nailtini polish I got, I’ll like it.

Pixi Beauty Bronzer in Subtly Suntouched – I have very fair skin, and this hardly shows up on ME so for them to call it a bronzer is a bit of a stretch. It has a nice satin finish, so I apply it heavily, could probably use it as a nice natural blush. If i just dust it all over my face, it could probably be good to just warm up my complexion. The moral of this is, it will work for me, because I’m so fair, but on people with darker skin tones, this will probably be a bust product.

Be A Bombshell Lip Crayon in Hot Damn – I love this. That’s it. I love the color, (a pretty pinky red). I love the formula. I love the name. I love the lip crayon form. Love and Win!

Em Cosmetics Lipstick in Don’t Tell Mom – Em is the new cosmetic line from Michelle Phan who is a popular YouTube Beauty Guru. I’ve heard mixed reviews of her line on the internets so I was happy to get something to try out for myself. The color I got is a BRIGHT hot pink and something that I have a lot of already in my collection. There is no lack of color payoff with this bad boy. You put it on your lips and BAM! It feels good on the lips and the wear is average but I’m not going: WOW! I’m going to go pay $16.50 for another one of these lipsticks. Yeah, a bit pricey. But in my $10 Ipsy bag, I’ll take it!

(Top to Bottom) Be a Bombshell, Em Lipstick, Starlooks Pencil, BH Shadow

So overall, not a bad $10 investment for, if nothing else, a super cute bag and a LOVE lip crayon.

Gift Guide: Sephora Give Me Some Lip

Give Me Some Lip

Give Me Some Lip

Today is the last day for the Sephora VIB Event and I’ve got another great gift idea for ya’ll. It happens to be another lip kit. Lip collections are a pretty safe makeup gift, in my opinion. I feel like everyone loves a good lip gloss. The Sephora Give Me Some Lip Kit a fantastic score at $25 (a $90 value) that includes 6 high end lip products in a variety of finishes and pretty neutral colors. There is nothing in here that is too loud that it wouldn’t be appropriate for everyday wear. The kit includes:
Р0.10 oz Laura Mercier Lip Glac̩ in Bare Pink
– 0.07 oz Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly
– 0.14 oz NARS Lip Gloss in Turkish Delight
Р0.08 oz Fresh Sugar Ros̩ Tinted Lip Treatment
– 0.05 oz Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Rhubarb
– 0.10 oz Tarte LipSurgence Lip Luster in Glitzy

The Tarte product is actually a full size.

Here are swatches of the products as they come in the kit from left to right:

Fresh, Laura Mercier, Buxom, Nars, Bite, Tarte

Fresh, Laura Mercier, Buxom, Nars, Bite, Tarte

All of these products are high quality and the packaging itself makes the presentation fab as well. I mean, who doesn’t love rose gold?! It makes a perfect gift for a friend or a co-worker that you actually like! Get it!

Final Verdict: Give me THAT lip kit!!!

Good luck with all your holiday shopping!!!!

Gift Guide: UD Shattered Face Case

First off: I’m very sorry for not getting this up yesterday as promised, I’m here in Missouri visiting my Sister and we were out all day visiting and what not. My apologies

Next: I swear that this item is available at Sephora but I can’t find a link to it on their website. I did find it on Beauty.com who is having a 20% off sale until Midnight Pacific time! Get it fast!
Face Case
The Shattered Face case is a limited edition ‘box’ from Urban Decay that features 5 eyeshadows, 2 blushes, a highlight, an about 1/2 size 24/7 liner in Zero and a full size Super Saturated Lip Color in Lovechild. There is another Face Case called Anarchy that contains the same amount of products but more neutrals and a deeper, red lip color. But back to the item at hand. The eyeshadows are really beautiful, I think. From left to right, a sparkly gunmetal, purple with pinky-purple glitter, a satin taupe, a satin peach, and a matte yellow neutral (similar to Foxy). All the shadows perform at the quality you would expect from Urban Decay. The peach and bright pink blush have great pigmentation as well and the highlight, I think would make a great eyeshadow on its own. Of course, I’m always a fan of the 24/7 pencils and the Super Saturated lip colors last like a dream.

Top Row: Shadows (L-R) Bottom Row: Lip Color, Blushes, Highlight

Top Row: Shadows (L-R)
Bottom Row: Lip Color, Blushes, Highlight

For $44, you get a decent amount of product in a cute, economically sized box. This would be an AWESOME gift for someone who travels a lot. I think you could get a multitude of natural and glam looks from the shadows and even more if you throw in the ‘highlight’ color as an eyeshadow.

Final Verdict: Don’t Haste on the Case!

Gift Guide: Bite Beauty – The Lip Kit

Starting today and going through Monday is the Sephora VIB Friends and Family Event. Beauty Insider VIB and VIB Rouge Members were sent two 20% off coupons: one for you and one for another beauty lover in your life. The holidays are just around the corner and I’m afraid that gifting season is quickly approaching. As a Rouge member and lover of all things Sephora I thought I would bring you a trio of items that I think would make excellent gifts for that special beauty lover. (If you keep them for yourself, I promise not to tell anyone!)

Bite Beauty: The Lip Kit

Bite Beauty: The Lip Kit

First, we have the Lip Kit by Bite Beauty. Bite is lipstick brand that has quickly skyrocketed itself to one of my favorites. Their lip products are made of all food grade ingredients since ‘you eat what you put on your lips.’ Makes sense to me! I can’t imagine how many pounds of lipstick I’ve consumed! But I digress. The kit contains 4 double ended mini tubes of lipstick in brand’s signature matte grey packaging. The kit costs $38 for the 8 minis when a regular full size tube will run you $28. I mean, when was the last time you completely went through an entire lipstick anyway?!

Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipsticks

Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipsticks

The Colors (From Left to Right):
Pepper – Dusty rose
Apricot – Warm red
Retsina – Natural pink
Mulberry – Wine
Pomegranate – Cherry red
Musk – Pink brown
Rose – Peachy pink
Palomino – Vibrant magenta

All of these colors are in their permanent line, so if you fall in love with a particular color, you can buy the full size. I have a full size Retsina and the wear and feel of this on your lips is fantastic: smooth and longwearing. They are packed full of good for you ingredients that you can feel good about putting on your mouth. I have a big problem with things drying out my lips but these lipsticks don’t tend to cause me any drying or flaking. I think $38 is a great price for you or a friend to try out 8 high quality lipsticks or explore a new brand!

Final Verdict: BITE into this deal! It’s a tasty one!

Check back in on Saturday and Monday for two more gift picks from the Sephora VIB event!

Ipsy Glam Bag: October

October Glam Bag

October Glam Bag

Hey there Ipsters! In the wise words of my dear friend Shan: This month’s bag is baller! And I agree! It’s probably my favorite ones that I’ve gotten yet.
Let’s start off with the super cute bag itself: Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art. Preach! I could sit here and look at fierce makeup looks all day! Some people paint, sculpt, draw…I use faces as my canvas. And I love it!

Now on to the goodies:
LA Fresh Oil-Free Face Cleanser Wipes – I’ve seen LA fresh on Hautelook and other sites and have wanted to try the brand so I was happy to see these. I can always use a good makeup wipe. I’ll be taking these on some upcoming trips.

Big Sexy Hair Blow Dry Volumizing Gel – I love the Big Sexy brand. Like I mentioned in my Procrastinating Beauty Blogger tag, I don’t often blow dry my hair. But when I do, it can use all the help it can get! Volume is something that is seriously lacking when I dry my hair straight so hopefully this will be something that will help a sister out.

Nourish Organic Coconut & Argan Body Lotion – This stuff smells AMAZING! I love coconut. It’s got Argan and is 100% Organic and does a pretty darn good job. I have super dry skin, especially this time of year and this is the perfect size to throw in my purse for moisture on the go. It says it’s available exclusively at Target so I may go and check out some more fragrances.

Zoya Nail Polish in Giovanna – A PERFECT color for fall. Emerald green is always in in my book. Zoya nail polishes are great. This is going on my toes next.

Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly – Another product that is a party on your lips. It gives that plumping tingle that I love! The color is a pretty shimmery pink that is a great accent color for the middle of the lip to give some more dimension. I’ve never tried any Buxom products before this and I likey.

So go get you a Glam Bag. I feel they are getting better and better!

NOT Loving Lately: Benefit Stay Flawless Primer

Glue Stick Fo Yo Face!

Glue Stick Fo Yo Face!

It’s a dreary, rainy day here in the Metroplex and apparently it’s made me cranky because today I’m going to talk about something that I DON’T like: Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer. Now, let me start by saying that I gave this product a fair shot. I used it with all types of foundations, different application techniques but I can just NOT get it to work. The way Benefit says to use it is to apply it to your face from the stick and then immediately apply your foundation. The primer is supposed to kind of mix with your foundation to make is super long wearing. Really, all it does for me is make it look cakey…and it makes me sad. I really wanted to love it but when it made my Holy Grail Inglot YSM foundation look bad, I had to throw in the towel. Have you guys tried this? Did you make it work? I’m sad I paid $30 plus to look like cake face!

Ipsy Glam Bag: September

Glam Bag September

Glam Bag September

Ipsy Time Everyone! My favorite $10 surprise of the month. This month’s theme was classic beauty and the bag was one of my favorites so far. The quality of the bags are getting better and better as the months go on. It’s a pretty royal blue with black butterfly pattern. I’m starting quite a collection of little bags! But let’s get to the good stuff, what’s inside!

Starlooks Kohl Eye Pencil in Obsidian: This is not my favorite eye pencil but definitely not my least favorite. It’s a bit on the dry side but not dry enough to tug. Because it’s a little on the dry side, it actually stays pretty well on the waterline. Not bad and you can always use another black liner.

NYX Single Eyeshadow in Lanikai: When I took this out of the bag, I LOVED the color. It’s a beautiful dusty blue color. NYX eyeshadows are notoriously hit or miss…and I’m afraid this one is a miss. Even with a primer, the color didn’t go on as nice as it could have.

SKYN Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels: I got two sets of these and man, I wish I got more. You put these little gel-like pads under your eyes and they de-puff and cool. They feel SOOO good on the skin and visibly make a difference on your under-eye area. These are the win of the bag for me and I’m going to be looking into purchasing more.

De-Puff Time!

De-Puff Time!

It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara by Elizabeth Mott: It’s so Big: That’s a lofty claim. Unfortunately, it falls short. The formula of this mascara is odd. You take the wand out and it’s almost stringy. When I put it on my lashes, it does nothing more than define it. No length, no volume and doesn’t really build on itself. I guess it’s good for natural days but for day to day wear, I like a little more out of my mascara.

Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm in Big Apple: I wouldn’t go on calling this a tinted lip balm. It’s more like a lip stain. It goes on dry…something I don’t think of when I think Lip Balm. But, this stuff STAINS! I put it on with a balm over it and the color lasted all day. And the color I got is gorgeous. So I like it, and I’ll continue to wear it, but I don’t think of it as a tinted lip balm.

So there’s the goodies I got this month. What did you get? Haven’t gotten on the Ipsy train yet? What you waiting for?! GET ON BOARD: http://www.ipsy.com/?refer=u-hgj5grwiit6y1fo9
